Now that audio is trending and podcast consumption levels have increased in Spain and around the world, especially in the wake of the pandemic, it is the best time to launch ‘Ibiza, 40 años de magia’ (Ibiza, 40 years of magic), thinks the popular radio dj Luis López, creator and director of the project. He presented the podcast yesterday at the Hostal La Torre, in Sant Antoni, along with two of its protagonists, the legendary Dj Pippi and well-known public relations expert Carlos Martorell, along with special guest Juan Miguel Costa, the island director of Turismo del Consell de Ibiza. This institution and the Mambo Group have financed the project, which reviews the history of Ibiza between 1960 and 2000 .

Luis López and his brother Javi, producer and sound engineer, have worked for a year to make this podcast a reality, which has ten episodes of approximately half an hour each showing the evolution of Ibiza during this period. It does so through 26 prominent figures of the island who, as its director pointed out, offer “first class testimonies of those decades in which many of the things that characterise and will characterise Ibiza took place”.
Among these prominent figures, in addition to Martorell and Dj Pippi, are the historian Felip Cirer , the designer Charo Ruiz and the music producer Pino Sagliocco , who, as López said, in this podcast has focused on talking about the Ku discotheque and the Pikes hotel, as he was the person who organised the birthday of the singer Freddie Mercury there. There are many anecdotes like this in ‘Ibiza, 40 years of magic’.
The first episode, which is now available on Spotify, Google Podcast, Ivoox and Apple Podcast, is entitled ‘La isla virgen’ and focuses on describing what Ibiza was like when it attracted so many painters, writers and intellectuals. One of the protagonists of this episode is Carlos Martorell, who discovered Ibiza in the sixties.
