The Policía Científica del Cuerpo Nacional de Policía de Ibiza yesterday continued the investigation into the apartment fire that on Sunday morning destroyed an flat in avenida de Bartomeu Roselló and in which an 89 year old woman, Pilar Torres, died. In the absence of the definitive results of the report, the Comisaría de Ibiza is certain that the apartment fire originated from accidental causes.
The agents have carried out their investigations accompanied by the chief sergeant of the Parque Insular de Bomberos de Ibiza, Miguel Sevilla. At the same time, the owners of the other affected apartments have accompanied an expert from the insurance company to evaluate the damages caused to their homes. However, in principle, they are not very serious.
The fire devastated the 6A apartment of the of the nine-storey apartment building in Avenida de Bartomeu de Roselló 24, where the 89-year-old woman was found alone after she became trapped on the balcony after going out to ask for help.
This morning, the owner of the upper apartment, Patricia, explained after the visit of the expert that both her apartment and apartment 8A have suffered damage to the exterior balconies, where the flames reached. Like the rest of the neighbors, she was visibly affected by the death of her neighbor “from her childhood neighborhood”.
No water
The whole building is still without water supply. “You have to look at how the pipes are, because they have been melted by the fire”, detailed Marisol, the owner of the 5A, who had just arrived to accompany the surveyor during the review of her apartment. However, despite the fact that her apartment is the one below that of the fire, she has not suffered any damage.
The apartment fire also affected the exterior balconies of the 7th and 8th floors and the 4th floor through the courtyard
However, the flames did reach the balcony of the courtyard on the 4th and 7th floors, as seen from the window of the landing. A technician reported that the elevator had not suffered any damage, although it could not yet be used until the electrical supply to the staircase was restored.

Dog rescue
Some homes, such as Marisol’s, do have electricity. She grew up in this apartment, but after moving to Portinatx, she left it to her daughter, who yesterday, when the fire broke out, was participating in an equestrian competition. Therefore, the firemen had to break down the door and rescue the two dogs inside the home, ‘Susi’, a bulldog, and ‘Lucas’, an American Staffordshire mix.
“The firefighters did a perfect job,” he said before leaving to help her brother, who lives on the 4th floor, to drain the water that still accumulated after Sunday’s incedent.
The neighbor from apartment 5B, María José, returned home to check if the water supply had been restored. “The apartment is fine inside, but, as we have a house in the countryside, we preferred to stay and sleep there yesterday”, she explained.
The municipal architect has confirmed that the apartment fire has not caused structural damage to the building
