1,600 young people in the Balearic Islands will benefit from the Bono Alquiler Joven of 250 euros/month

The Bono Alquiler Joven aid is not compatible with other ordinary aid from the Conselleria.

A total of 1,600 young people in the Balearic Islands will benefit from the Bono Alquiler Joven, which involves a grant of 250 euros per month for at least two years, and can be requested online until September 15th.

This was explained on Tuesday at a press conference by the president of the Govern, Francina Armengol, who stressed that young people are “a priority group at this time and deserve all the support, encouragement and policies to have a quality life”.

At this point, she has valued that the Bono Alquiler Joven aid is an “incentive policy” for young people to access housing in adequate condition, something “incredibly complicated” for this group on the Islands.

Specifically, the bond consists of aid for 250 euros for young people between 18 and 35 years whose income does not exceed 24,318 euros and who currently have a rental contract in force, with a monthly rent of up to 900 euros and in force on January 1st, 2022 or later until the deadline for applications.

Furthermore, these are individual applications and not per dwelling, and the aid will be awarded in order of entry.

The budget allocated to the Bono Alquiler Joven is 9.6 million euros, in two annual installments (2022 and 2023) of 4.8 million euros each. It is a measure promoted by the central government and managed by the autonomous communities.

Application for the Bono Alquiler Joven

To access this subsidy, young tenants will have to make their application telematically through the web www.bolloguerjove.caib.es, with electronic ID card, digital certificate or PIN code.

In addition, they have to justify the monthly rental payments from January 2022 to September 2022.

The Bono Alquiler Joven subsidies are not compatible with the ordinary rental subsidies offered annually by the Directorate General for Housing, with the intention of being able to cover a larger number of beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries

Since 2015, the amount of rental aid offered by the Department of Mobility and Housing has increased sevenfold and the number of beneficiaries has multiplied by 6.5. Moreover, since that same year, it has gone from a budget of 1.5 million euros and 785 beneficiaries, to mobilize, in 2020, a total of 9.7 million euros in rental aid for 5,427 beneficiaries.

Of these 2020 rental aid beneficiaries, 1.100 have been young people under 35 years of age, which represents 20 percent of the total.

On the other hand, the Govern has recalled that the call for aid for 2021 has an initial budget of 9,028,000 euros and 9,150 applications have been submitted. Of these, as of May 31st, 3,120,229.60 euros have been paid to 1,530 beneficiaries. In the coming weeks, a second payment will be made for a similar amount, which will mean that more than 70 percent of the initial budget for these grants for 2021 will have been paid.

Housing for young people

Beyond direct rental subsidies, the Govern is promoting other housing policies, in the medium and long term, aimed at young people.

In this regard, they have stressed that the Balearic Housing Institute (Ibavi) has created a specific social housing stock for young people under 35 years of age that is fed by two policies of action. One of them is that 50 percent of the houses acquired by first option to large holders are destined to young people and another, that 15 percent of the VPP of new construction also has recipients who are young people under 35 years.

Between this specific package for young people and the general list of Ibavi, the Government has delivered to date 47 homes to young people under 35 years and the forecast is that this figure will grow to 150 homes at the end of the legislature.
