More than seven hours of music and a lot of dancing took the Sueños de Libertad festival to the commercial dock of the port of Ibiza on Saturday night and into the early hours of the morning. After a year of hiatus and another with spectators sitting in chairs, the lineup was set to get bodies moving and the huge crowd did not want to miss it.
The warmth of the atmosphere and the smell of food were appreciated upon arrival at the commercial dock of Vila. People were arriving little by little to be the first to take their place in front of the stage and see the artists they knew or those to be a new discovery. Bomba Estéreo, who made the audience dance throughout their performance with their electronic bases and tropical melodies, and SFDK, who closed the night with all the spectators jumping to the rhythm of rap, were the most acclaimed. This was how Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday morning was presented for this new year of Sueños de Libertad, which again had the public on their feet in the port after a year of hiatus and another year sitting in chairs due to the pandemic restrictions.
Long queues at Sueños de Libertad
The evening started with the songs played by Nickodemus, with about half an hour delay. The DJ played the music while the spectators arrived at their destination and others bought tickets to buy drinks at the festival to prepare for a very hot night. Although at the beginning everything moved quickly, throughout the night long queues formed to buy drinks, plus at one point the ‘dreamers’ stalls, the festival currency, closed due to a technical problem contributing to the chaos. “I think there has been a little lack of foresight in terms of the ticket, because there were queues of up to 150 people. Then later there will be another queue just the same,” said Alejandro Higueras, festival attendee.
“I think Ibiza should support this kind of music more, its a little more independent and outside the norm that we are bound to by the clubs,” said Cia Camacho, who was returning to the festival after attending several years earlier and already knew some artists like Bomba Estéreo or SFDK.
“It’s the first time we’ve come, this time because we have been invited, but I have to say that I like Bomba Estéreo a lot. Besides, I’m seeing a very Ibizan atmosphere and I love that,” said another spectator, Elena García.
The guitar and maracas began to sound which signaled that it was the Cuban artist Eliades Ochoa’s turn, who treated his audience as a “family” during the hour-long concert. It should be noted that the singer started his performance late because the festival had started later than planned. As soon as the warm notes of his guitar and the rest of his band began to sound, the first dance steps began among the audience to the Caribbean sound. The vocalist did not fail to mention the Buenavista Social Club project, in which he participated and which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and sang some of his emblematic songs, such as ‘Chan chan’ or ‘El carretero’, chanted by the audience.
