More than 6 million resident discounts for Balearic Islands travel

The government allocates 265 million euros for resident travel to the Balearic Islands.

The State will subsidize more than 6.2 million air and boat tickets for Balearic residents, an allocation of 265,739,838 euros over the course of 2023.

In detail, the General State Budget for the next fiscal year includes a 1.4 percent increase in Balearic Islands residents’ bonuses for air transport to the islands, from 212 million euros to 215 million euros in 2023 (215,013,298), while the figure for residents on maritime transport will be maintained at 50,726,540 euros.

Specifically, these data imply that 2,277,995 tickets will be subsidized for maritime transport and 4,099,560 tickets for air transport.

75% of costs covered for resident interisland travel

The aid covers 75% of air and maritime costs except for interisland maritime transport, for which the State only provides 50% of the discount and the Community, the remaining 25% between islands and 39% in the case of Ibiza and Formentera.

The aids for freight transport are maintained at 5 million euros to cover budgetary needs, given the limitations imposed by the European regulations of the de minimis rule, which limits a company to a maximum of 200,000 euros over three years in State aids.

Finally, the central Government will increase the amount destined to the tender for the public service between Menorca and Madrid by 7% (1,800,000 euros).

The Conselleria has praised these data, which will guarantee a total coverage of the bonuses for residents of the Islands in both air and maritime transport. Likewise, they have emphasized that they continue working on the petition that the European Union modifies the de minimis rule for the insular territories.
