The roundabout planned by the Consell de Ibiza at the intersection of Calles Santa Eulària and Sant Joan, at kilometer 7.9, the so-called intersection of Los Cazadores, will be at road level with a diameter of 80 meters and an initial cost of 5.1 million euros. This is alternative 1, the one chosen among the four proposed, which appears in the informative study that since yesterday is on public exhibition at the headquarters of the institution.
Roundabout won’t be elevated
Thus, the Consell rules out that the roundabout will be elevated on the current layout of the road, like those of airport highway, as was proposed in alternatives 3 and 4. The first, with a 90-meter roundabout three meters above ground level (so that traffic between Ibiza and Santa Eulária would run underneath without interruptions), was evaluated as the best in terms of functional criteria, but the worst qualified in the rest due to “the high land occupation, the great environmental, landscape and acoustic impact and its high cost”, valued at 7.8 million euros.
Option 4, with a cost of 7.1 million euros, included a roundabout of 80 meters at a height of only 1.5 meters to enable a direct traffic lane in the Santa Eulària-Ibiza direction.
The chosen alternative is the best valued in terms of technical and economic criteria, and the second in terms of functional, environmental and patrimonial criteria. This proposal contemplates the construction of two lanes of entry and exit to the roundabout, on the surface, to facilitate the flow of traffic.
It should be noted that calles Santa Eulària, except in the section of Jesus and Ca na Negreta, and Sant Joan only have one lane in each direction. A direct branch (lane zero) from Sant Joan to the road leading to Sant Rafel and Santa Gertrudis (EI-631) is also planned to reduce traffic at the roundabout.
Access to the warehouses and properties in the southern area is facilitated through a service road that connects to the roundabout, which “significantly improves road safety,” according to the informative study of the four proposals.
