A fire broke out on the terrace of an apartment in the heart of Ibiza this Thursday morning, causing concern among the locals and necessitating the swift intervention of firefighters. While the fire was contained to the exterior of the building, a man who was inside at the time of the incident sustained minor burns on his hands as he attempted to put out the flames.

At around 11:30 am, firefighters swiftly arrived at a second-floor property located on Catalunya street and brought the emergency under control within a matter of minutes. According to the corporal in charge of the extinguishing team, the fire seems to have originated in an air conditioning unit on the balcony. Fortunately, the flames were contained to the air conditioning unit, a small portion of an awning, and some of the terrace’s furnishings and decor, without spreading to other rooms.

The corporal reported that the occupant of the apartment sustained burns to his hands while attempting to extinguish the fire using towels. The man was able to evacuate the property on his own prior to the arrival of emergency services. A SAMU team provided on-site medical assistance to the man, who suffered only minor burns. According to one of the health workers involved in the response, the man was expected to be transferred to a hospital for further treatment.

The firefighters completed their work and returned to the station at approximately noon. The Insular Park also dispatched a truck and an autoescalera vehicle, but the team was able to access the source of the fire through the building’s front door without the need for additional equipment. Throughout the firefighting operation, the Local Police closed access to Cataluña street at the intersection with Extremadura street to ensure public safety.
