Two electric buses are incorporated to the fleet that performs regular services dependent on the Consell de Ibiza, which operates on the island Alsa. The two vehicles will be operational from Easter, as reported by the island institution.

The presentation of these two new vehicles took place this morning at the Sant Antoni Bus Station and was attended by the vice president and councilor of Transport of the Consell Insular de Ibiza, Javier Torres, the general manager of Alsa, Víctor López and the manager in the Balearic Islands, José Burgos.

Thanks to their electric propulsion technology, it is estimated that the commissioning of these two units will result in “an annual saving of 22,000 liters per year of diesel fuel, thus achieving a emissions reduction of more than 54 Tons of CO2 per year“, explains Alsa in a press release.

The new units replace two minibuses more than 10 years old and are incorporated into lines L35 and L45B, which are used by 60,000 passengers each year.

The L35 covers the route Can Misses-sa Carroca-San Jodie and the L45B, Vara de Rey-Talamanca-Cetis-Can Misess-Can Escandell-Cas Serres-Vara de Rey.

Zero emissions

The main contribution of the electric technology of these vehicles is that it reduces emissions emitted into the atmosphere to zero. “They use an electric motor driven by batteries powered by electric energy and have a battery recovery system that allows them to be recharged by taking advantage of the energy produced during braking or the inertia of traffic jams, enabling greater autonomy,” reports the bus company.

All this allows electric buses to have a 90% efficiency compared to 30% for combustion vehicles, due to energy losses due to friction and heat.

Less noise

Moreover, the exterior and interior noise produced by electric vehicles is minimal, which contributes to greater passenger comfort during the journey and to the reduction of noise pollution.

In addition, by having very compact engines that take up less space, space optimization is achieved, which translates into greater comfort for travelers.

More accessible

The two new vehicles are model karsan e-atackthe Karsan e-atack, which is eight meters long and has 43 seats, plus one seat reserved for people with reduced mobility.

It is a low-floor model (low entry) that makes journeys more comfortable and accessible and has a kneeling system (kneeling), which makes it easier for passengers to get on and off. This model also has USB chargers distributed throughout the passenger compartment for recharging users’ mobile devices.

With the incorporation of these two units, added to that of the six hybrid buses carried out last February, Alsa states that it takes another step forward in the renewal of its fleet in Ibiza, both in terms of reducing its average age and environmental efficiency, which results in the improvement of the services it provides on the island.
