The death of a patient with coronavirus yesterday marred some of the best data recorded in this last wave of the pandemic: the critical care units are beginning to empty of covid patients. The 98-year-old woman at the time of death was admitted to the Internal Medicine ward F of the Can Misses Hospital. With her death, there are now 28 victims of the pandemic so far this year. This figure is a far cry from the number recorded at this time last year. On March 2, 2021, almost 70 people had died of covid in the Pitiusas: 68.
Ibiza and Formentera currently have the lowest number of coronavirus patients in ICU since last December 21 with just three. A figure that has taken more than two months to reduce and that reached its peak on January 31 with twelve people in critical condition as a result of the virus. In the last week, the number of critical coronavirus patients has been reduced by more than half.
Two of the three most seriously affected are in the Can Misses Hospital and one in the Policlรญnica Nuestra Seรฑora del Rosario, detailed the Health Department of Ibiza and Formentera in the latest update of pandemic data.
More hospitalized for covid
The number of hospitalized slightly increased compared to Tuesday. There are now 56, two more than the previous day, an increase that is concentrated in patients who are on the ward, given the reduction recorded among those in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Can Misses Hospital has 53 covid patients: 51 on the ward (those infected in the Internal Medicine F and those who have tested negative in the rest of the hospital) and two in the ICU. The patient from Formentera who is recovering from the virus after extracorporeal oxygenation (ECMO) was performed to save his life must also be added to these figures. He is in a hospital ward of the Hospital Son Espases, in Mallorca, where he was transferred about two and a half months ago. In addition, Policlรญnica Nuestra Seรฑora del Rosario has two other patients admitted for coronavirus: one on the ward and the other in its own critical care unit.
In the last hours only four infections were detected, all of them in Ibiza, a very low figure, although it must be taken into account that Tuesday was a holiday, so only urgent tests were performed. Between these positives, the death and the discharges provided by doctors, the active infections are about to fall below 300: 318, the lowest figure recorded in the Pitiusas since November 23.
