The Consell de Ibiza has imposed a penalty of 20,000 euros to a Spanish citizen for marketing a illegal tourist housing in the town of Ibiza, in Pere Matutes Noguera Avenue, in a residential building in horizontal property regime (of several owners), and therefore, not susceptible of tourist commercialization in the island of Ibiza.
The advertising was carried out without having presented the Responsible declaration of the Beginning of the Tourist Activity, and without being registered in the Insular Registry of Companies, Activities and Tourist Establishments, as reported by the Consell in a statement. The property was advertised on two platforms with availability calendar, ‘check in’ and check out indications, reservation cancellations and other services.
The tourist inspection service of the Consell reviewed this housing and processed the sanctioning file for infringement on tourism for advertising, contracting and marketing of housing without having submitted the corresponding responsible declaration of initiation of tourist activity or prior communication, with a penalty of 20,000 euros. In this case it is given the circumstance that the same dwelling was already object of sanction to another marketer, explains the island institution.
In view of the number of sanctioning files processed in the last months, Juan has remarked “the good work rhythm of the Tourism Management department” that is allowing “to move forward a great number of files”, but Juan has insisted that with sanctions the problem will not be solved.
“The Balearic Government has to accept the proposal of the Consell de Ibiza to close illegal tourist apartments when they are denounced, it is the only way to send a strong message to the offenders and prevent this problem from continuing,” says the conseller.
Collection of fines
Likewise, Mariano Juan recalls that since the creation of the Anti-Intrusion Office, the collection of fines in Ibiza has tripled compared to the last legislature, with 1.1 million euros in tourist sanctions and 41 files resolved in the last 12 months.
