February 2023 was a cold month in Ibiza, with an average temperature of 9.6 degrees and an anomaly of -0.7◦C, while in Formentera it was almost normal, with 12.1 degrees on average and an anomaly of -0.2 degrees, according to the meteorological balance published by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The highest maximum temperatures were 21 and 20.7 degrees in Formentera and Sant Joan, respectively, on the 21st. The lowest maximum temperatures were recorded in all the islands on the 27th, coinciding with the arrival of the ‘Juliette’ squall, and were 8.1 degrees in Sant Joan and 10.3 degrees in Formentera.

The lowest minimum temperature in Ibiza during the month of February was on the 1st, specifically in Sant Joan, where the following was recorded -1.2 degrees, while on Formentera the lowest minimum was 1.7 degrees on the 27th.

During last month increased the number of days with frost compared to the average, notes Aemet. In Sant Joan there were six when the normal is four.

As for rainfall, in Ibiza and Formentera it was a wet month. In Ibiza it rained an average of 38.1 liters per square meter (l/m2), when normal is 34.4 l/m2 (11% more) and in Formentera, 31.4 l/m2, 46% more than normal, which is 21.5 l/m2.

Maximum daily rainfall was recorded on all the islands between the 27th and 28th, also caused by squall ‘Juliette’. In Ibiza, 29.2 l/m2 fell in Sant Joan and in Formentera, 18 l/m2.

Snow

During this month there have been two episodes of snow in the Balearic Islands, with five days of snow in total when the normal is three. The first episode affected only Mallorca. The second episode of snow, more relevant, affected Mallorca and also Ibiza between the 27th and 28th, caused by the same squall. In Ibiza it snowed above 200 meters on the 27th in Sant Joan, with a thickness that reached five centimeters.

There were also four misty or foggy days in Ibiza and three in Formentera.

As for the windfebruary was not very windy. At Ibiza airport there were four days of strong wind, when seven is normal, and at Formentera there was only one day of strong wind.

The maximum wind gusts reached 59 kilometers per hour at Ibiza airport on the 28th and 52 kilometers per hour at Formentera on the 8th.

Finally, there were four days of waves of more than three meters throughout the archipelago. On the 28th, waves of a maximum height of 10.7 meters were recorded at the Dragonera buoy and on the 27th, of 9.4 meters at the Maó buoy, also produced by ‘Juliette’.
