The Pitiusa Health Department yesterday reported the covid-related death of a 98-year-old resident of Sa Residència older people’s centre. The elderly woman, who had pre-existing conditions, died in the centre itself. This resident is the third to die with covid at the centre in the last seven days and the virus’s fifth victim in that period.
The high viral transmission of this wave has caused the virus to return to nursing homes again, but Sa Residència has so far been the worst hit. This latest death is in addition to that of a 94-year-old man and another woman of 88. All had pre-existing conditions.
Meanwhile, ICU occupancy continues to rise, along with the overall number of hospitalisations. At Can Misses, the centre that handles almost all critically ill patients, ICU saturation has already required three patients to be transferred to Son Espases hospital in Mallorca, after the Ibiza and Formentera Health Area reported two new transfers yesterday.
Counting the three infected patients from Las Pitusas receiving treatment in Son Espases ICU, the number of critically ill patients in hospital comes to twelve. As for the remaining patients, eight are in Can Misses ICU, while another is receiving treatment at the Policlínica del Rosario. The number of hospitalised patients on the ward is also on the rise. In Ibiza, 67 people are recovering from the virus on the ward, compared to 63 the previous day. The total number of admissions went from 73 to 79 yesterday.
