The CEO of Ryanair, Michael O’Leary has revealed in an interview that the airline is suffering from cases of aggression on its flights on a weekly basis, according to the Daily Mail. The founder of the low-cost airline has assured that there has been a “notable increase” in bad behavior on their flights due to the inebriated passengers.
As a result, O’Leary has requested that every boarding pass should be limit the number of alcoholic beverages on each boarding pass to two they can consume at airports. “It’s not so easy for airlines to identify people who are drunk. As long as they can stand up, they can get through,” the CEO points out. “Then, when the plane takes off, we see the bad behavior,” O’Leary explains.
Ibiza is the worst destination for this, publishes the British newspaper, although the problem of drunk passengers is not limited to the island, as it affects other beach destinations such as the Greek islands and even Liverpool, Glasgow, Manchester and Edinburgh.
Water bottles with vodka
Along these lines, Ryanair staff are preventing Britons flying to Ibiza from bringing water on board as passengers were filling their bottles with alcohol, Michael O’Leary has reported. The crew has been forced to start to search baggage passengers’ carry-on luggage before boarding to holiday destinations such as the island and elsewhere.
“We used to allow them to carry only a bottle of water on board, not realizing they were full of vodka,” notes the airline’s CEO. “Now we don’t even allow them to carry that,” he laments. In fact, there are videos on social networks showing tricks for sneaking ethyl drinks onto airplanes.
“In the past, people who drank too much ended up slumped over or asleep. But now those passengers are also taking pills and ‘powder,'” O’Leary explains. “You see much more aggressive behavior, which is difficult to control. And it’s not limited to the crew. The fights between passengers are a growing trend on board aircraft,” remarks Michael O’Leary.
