Ibiza woman and children detained in France by ex-partner

An Ibiza woman, residing in France for three and a half years, finds herself unable to return to the island despite having won custody of her three children, aged six, ten, and sixteen, after enduring alleged mistreatment by her French ex-partner. Despite the Meaux Judicial Court granting her full parental authority, she is “trapped” in France, needing her ex-partner’s consent to leave the country with her children. She recounts a series of financial and emotional abuses following her decision to end the relationship, including being economically stifled and intimidated. Despite obtaining a favorable ruling, which awarded her the family home and limited the father’s visitation rights, she faces logistical and legal barriers that prevent her from relocating back to Ibiza, where she has better support and resources, particularly for her child with epilepsy. Now, without financial resources or the ability to access her bank in Spain due to her ex-partner cancelling their shared phone line, she is reliant on her social circle for support, highlighting the complex challenges faced by victims of domestic abuse seeking to rebuild their lives.
