Two sailboats and a motorboat have been stranded on the beach of s’Estanyol, in the bay of Portmany, after the storm caused by the ‘Betty’ squall.
The abundant rains and strong gusts of wind caused throughout yesterday that several boats were swept away. The bay of Portmany has been one of the most affected areas in the municipalities of Sant Josep and Sant Antoni.
The two sailboats stranded in s’Estanyolthe two sailboats stranded in s’Estanyol under the jurisdiction of Sant Josep, are in one piece, according to the revisions carried out and their owners are trying to get them out of the water, as detailed by the City Council.
Breakages in the beaconing
On the other hand, the abrupt displacement of the vessels caused the beaconing to be broken of the beach of es Pouet (Sant Antoni). The department of Environment, Beaches and Cleanlinesshas registered incidences of this type on all the beaches of the municipality except in Cala Gració.
The breakage of the beaconing of Caló des Moro and s’Arenal beachwas also caused by the impact of the boats that were closer to the coast and were dragged by the wind and the tide.
The City Council of Sant Antoni points out that they are working on the restoration of the damaged beacons. In addition, it informs that in the beach of es Pouet per continues hoisted the red flag for the repair.
Another sailboat in Formentera
During yesterday, several boats were washed ashore, stranding one of them also in Formentera.
On the small island of the Pitiusas, a sailboat ran aground on some rocks of sa Sequi, in the Natural Park of Ses Salines. The boat is being extracted today with a boom type crane.
