DANA Alice gives Ibiza a welcome respite before the weekend

The Balearic delegation of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has forecast that DANA Alice will bring a “temporary improvement” over the next few hours across the archipelago, although the unstable weather, with occasional heavy showers, could continue throughout the weekend.

In Ibiza, the sun returned on Friday morning and skies are expected to remain mostly clear until early afternoon. Meteorologists will activate a yellow alert for rain from 6 p.m. until midnight.

The deputy spokesperson for Aemet in the Balearic Islands, Miquel Gili, explained that the effects of the DANA will persist in the coming days because it “moves very little” geographically.

As a result, rain “of some intensity” could begin this afternoon in Ibiza and Formentera. The weather warnings will rise to orange level from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, due to expected rainfall of up to 40 litres per square metre in one hour and accumulations of up to 100 litres per square metre over the course of the event.

DANA Alice arrives in Mallorca and Menorca

Rain will also reach Mallorca and Menorca on Saturday, with yellow warnings for rain and storms activated from 8 a.m. In the Llevant area of Mallorca, this alert will be raised to orange.

Gili noted that atmospheric instability will persist through Sunday and Monday, with occasional showers that could be locally intense in Mallorca and Menorca, before showing a “relative improvement” on Tuesday and Wednesday.

As for temperatures, no major changes are expected, remaining between 24 and 26°C for highs and 16 to 18°C for lows, although they may drop slightly on Saturday due to cloud cover.

The Balearic Islands remain under the same air mass, with moderate easterly winds that will bring choppy seas but not strong enough to trigger coastal warnings.
