Timetables and routes for Easter processions in Ibiza

The procession of the Holy Burial will start at 8:00 p.m. from the Cathedral

The Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesús Cautivo took advantage of the starting signal of the Holy Week of Ibiza which involved the reading of the proclamation of this year’s celebrations to present its own program of events. This will begin on March 8 with the first day of the triduum (19.30 pm), which will host the parish of Santa Cruz until Sunday 10. On the 9th (19.30 hours) Doña Brígida will sing a saeta with the accompaniment of guitarist Juan Reina and after mass, at 20.15, the XVIII concert of processional marches will be held while on the 10th (10.30 hours) the parish choir of Santa Cruz will sing and the medals will be awarded to the new members of the brotherhood.

As every year, on Holy Tuesday (March 26) they will make a Stations of the Cross to the penitentiary center of Ibiza, where the image of the Captive Christ will be taken to “bring the faith closer to the people who are deprived of their freedom”.

The brotherhood, which participates in the great events of Holy Week on the island, such as the procession of the Holy Burial and the Easter Sunday Encounter, will distribute again this year stamps with lollipops of Nazarene during this last procession and that of Holy Thursday. “Especially to the little ones, who loved it. In addition, it is a way to bring them closer to the Nazarenes without scaring them,” says Vicente Nadal, president.

Among the this year’s new products the new pieces of the confraternity include some premiere pieces. Among them, a diadem for one of the secondary figures of the Mystery paso, Pontius Pilate, a sculpture inspired by the “beloved” parish priest Enrique Torres, who died last year and honorary president of the brotherhood. This same step, in addition, will premiere skirts “with brocade fabric brought from Seville” that has been commissioned to embroider Aurora, seamstress of the group and two candlesticks of gold work from a workshop in Cordoba.

“To achieve all the results that are then seen in the street from all the brotherhoods there is an immense and free work and effort. To give time, to sacrifice the family and, above all, with the difficulty that this is not Andalusia and here the hobby is not so great”, comments Vicente Nadal, president of the brotherhood Nuestro Padre Jesus Cautivo, a few hours after the presentation of the Holy Week of the city of Ibiza. “But little by little our Holy Week has been evolving and is a great point of cultural interest for the island and tourism,” concludes Nadal, whose brotherhood, like all those of the city, are already preparing for ten intense days of religious fervor.

A program of events that will begin in just three weeks, on March 22, with the Mass and the procession of Friday of Sorrows, scheduled at 8 pm in the Cathedral. There will meet the Dolorosa and the Christ of the Cemetery, which will process to the Patio de Arman, where the ‘Miserere’ will be sung. The following day, at 7 p.m., the Christ of the Blood will walk the streets of the Marina after a mass in Sant Elm.
