The madness of rental prices in Ibiza has no limits. Greed is destroying the island and advertisements are multiplying on the main online rental platforms in which evidence is found of how many are forcing residents and workers to leave the island, to live in substandard housing and even to fall into various frauds.
An advertisement found on the website Idealista leaves no doubt that on this island the law of supply and demand has been pushed so far to the limit that it has become distorted.
“A connected human being.”
The property in question, a three-bedroom house, is located in the area of s’Argamassa, in Santa Eulària des Riu. The advertisers rent one of those three rooms, “small and furnished”, for 2,240 euros per month plus two months deposit (which requires an outlay of 6,720 euros to move in). Of course, the tenant, according to the ad, must be a “connected human being for our guest room at our estate.”
There are several dogs and cats in the home, so “you should love animals But you can’t bring more animals into our house!“, reads the ad.
The room, which can only be occupied by one person, will be free from July 24 and can also be rented by the week (€770), fortnightly (€1,400) or for three weeks (€1,890).
The advertisers also require that the interested party to answer three questions:
who are you and who would the room be for? From what date would you like the room? What is your passion and your job?
Prices that become ‘normal
Unfortunately, ads for rooms at more than €2,000 per month rent are proliferating and increasing as the season progresses.
Two of them (2,400 euros per month) are located in Puig d’en Vallsin a three-room apartment. Those two rooms correspond to the same apartment, that is, whoever rents the rooms gets a total of 4,800 euros per month for them. In the advertisement they explain that the owner of the apartment does not live there. Curiously, for one of these two rooms there is another ad asking for 500 euros less: 1,900 euros.
Another one of the most expensive rooms is the one in an apartment located at the avenue Vuit d’Agost de Vila – “the location is top in front of the Pacha Hotel”– and for which they are asking 2,000 euros per month. The owner explains that her intention is to live in the apartment, which she has just renovated, but that she is traveling and while she does not settle on the island, she rents the rooms (she has two, with two bathrooms).
