Parking woes in Sant Jordi during long weekends: An odyssey

La localidad se ha convertido en el ‘parking’ oficioso y gratuito del aeropuerto de Ibiza, lo que complica la rotación de vehículos en sus plazas

Sant Jordi has inadvertently become a free, unofficial parking alternative for Ibiza airport travelers, particularly noted during weekends and extended holidays. Residents have observed an increasing trend where individuals park their vehicles in the town—where parking remains unregulated and free—before taking a bus to the airport, leaving their cars stationary for days. This practice, primarily spread by word of mouth, has significantly hampered parking space rotation, especially affecting local businesses and restaurants with some experiencing reservation cancellations due to parking unavailability. The community and local entrepreneurs are advocating for parking regulation measures, such as paid parking or time-limited parking, to mitigate the issue. In response, the City Council plans to introduce a “blue zone” as a pilot this summer, enforcing a two-hour parking rotation from Monday to Saturday, aiming to alleviate the problem without imposing parking fees initially.
