New squall’s arrival set to impact Ibiza this week

After several weeks of stable weather and very high temperatures for the time of the year in the Pitiusas, the anticyclonic blockade begins to weaken

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) warns of an episode of intense wind and widespread rainfall due to the arrival of an Atlantic squall which, with its associated fronts, will cross the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, giving rise to an episode of intense wind and widespread rainfall, which will affect Ibiza and Formentera.

After several weeks where stable weather and very high temperatures for the time of year have prevailed in the Pitiusas, it is beginning to weaken the anticyclonic blockade allowing the entry of atmospheric disturbances, according to the Aemet forecast.

During the second half of Wednesday 7 an Atlantic squall will approach with its associated fronts that will cross the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands during the following days, leading to an episode of intense wind with probable very strong gusts from the southwest and widespread rainfall, but no rain. . It will arrive in principle to Ibiza and Formentera.

On Friday, with the advance of the frontal system, these precipitations will be generalized, affecting the Pitiusas, with weaker and less probable precipitations, than in other points of the Peninsula.

Weekend

With high uncertainty still, the most likely scenario indicates that during the weekend the wind will shift to the west, with strong intervals and very strong gusts more likely in the eastern third of the peninsula, the Strait, Alboran and Balearic Islands.

Precipitation, although persisting, could lose intensity and spatial extent, and would be accompanied by a significant decrease in the snow level.

Regarding the temperatures during Thursday and Friday, the maximum temperatures will decrease as the front advances, and during the weekend the minimum temperatures will also decrease, reaching temperatures more appropriate for this time of the year.
