Ibiza, only Spanish to recover pre-covid traffic in August

Aircraft movements are only 0.8 percent lower than they were two years ago, despite a 26.1 percent drop in passengers

Ibiza is the airport that has recovered the most traffic during August in the entire Aena network and, in fact, is the only one in Spain to have all but returned to 2019 figures, with a drop of only 0.8% in air traffic with respect to the same month two years ago. That said, 26.1% fewer passengers have passed through the Ibizan terminal than in August 2019. Only Valencia is ahead, with 25% less.

Aena network airports have registered more than 18 million passengers and 189,070 aircraft movements in the month of August, which means a recovery of more than 60% of the traffic in 2019, before the pandemic.

The cumulative figure so far this year shows a recovery of 32.2% of 2019 traffic. The airport that recorded the highest level of activity last August was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 23,371 aircraft movements and a decline of 37.1% compared to August 2019.

This is followed by Palma de Mallorca, with 23,243 movements (-19.3%); Barcelona-El Prat, with 21,857 (-33.1%); Malaga Costa del Sol, with 13.033 (-16.7%); Ibiza, with 12,160 (-0.8%); Gran Canaria, with 8,699 (-18%); Alicante-Elche, with 7,828 (-27.2%); Valencia, with 6,645 (-10.3%); Tenerife Norte, with 5,947 (-12.4%); and Menorca, with 5,247 (-5.3%).
