The Govern on the €96 million compensation to Matthias Kühn, owner of Tagomago: ‘It makes us a huge economic hole’

El vicepresidente del Ejecutivo autonómico lamenta la "irresponsabilidad" de la izquierda por desclasificar estos terrenos "a sabiendas" de que iba a haber posteriores reclamaciones millonarias

The vice-president of the Government and Minister of Economy, Finance and Innovation, Antoni Costa warned this Thursday that the ruling of the Supreme Court that obliges the regional executive to compensate with 96 million to the businessman Matthias Kühn for the protection of Muleta, in Sóller, will make a “huge hole” in the coffers of the Community.

In declarations to IB3 Ràdio’s morning show, Costa said that he does not know if the legal services of the Govern will end up advising the possibility of appealing the ruling before the Constitutional Courthe did, however, affirm that, if finally “it has to be paid, the Community will pay, obviously”.

Vice-president Costa had very harsh words for the governments of the progressive pact that protected these lands, a through Law 4/2008 on urgent measures for sustainable territorial development in the Balearic Islands.

According to him, when the left approved this regulation, which declassified several properties, the then leaders were warned that “there were going to be millionaire compensations because they declassified soils that are already urbanized”. “There was no way for them to understand it,” lamented Costa, who pointed out that approving a law knowing that it will lead to compensation is not a crime, although it is a form of embezzlement of public money.

Community Coffers

“We are talking about amounts that make a huge hole in the coffers of the Autonomous Community,” reiterated the Minister of Economy, who pointed out that the Govern has accumulated “400 million euros paid derived from urban planning sentences of Law 4/2008.” “This is the price we have to pay as a consequence of this irresponsibility”, he asserted.

Regarding how this millionaire amount will be paid, Costa assured that it is still under study. He indicated that most likely it will have to resort to a law of extraordinary credit in the Parliament. “We do not have any such high item in the current budget to deal with this. It was not foreseen,” he said.

In any case, he stressed that no economic item that is essential for the citizens of the Balearic Islands will be cut.
