Deceased man was not decapitated after being run over by a ferry in Ibiza

The Guardia Civil is questioning witnesses to the incident as well as the second crew member of the boat, who was slightly injured and has already been released after being admitted to the Hospital Can Misses with an anxiety attack

The man who died last Wednesday night after the boat he was in was run over by a ferry at the mouth of the port was not decapitated, despite what was initially reported by sources of the investigation. The Guardia Civil has been searching since then for the remains of this person, R.G.S., a 46 year old Spaniard, whose body was in such a bad state due to the impact with the hull of the ferry, the ‘Formentera Direct’, that it was not possible to recognise him, according to the Guardia Civil. As a result of the violent collision, the victim lost a large part of his head, the remains of which are being searched for, the same sources add.

The Civil Guard also reported that they are taking statements from all the witnesses of the tragic event, also the second crew member of the boat that was hit, who suffered only minor injuries. J.I.V., 46 years old, was admitted to the Hospital Can Misses minutes before one o’clock on Wednesday morning due to an anxiety attack, and was discharged yesterday at 5:04pm. The agents in charge of the investigation (from the Maritime Service and the Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil, assisted by the Capitanía Marítima de las Pitiusas and Salvamento Marítimo), have been able to take his statement.

All witnesses

Statements were also taken from those who witnessed the collision, both from the Baleària ship or from land, heard the strong impact or have some relation with the incident.

Members of the GEAS of the Guardia Civil are also working to recover the wreckage of the vessel that sank after the collision, which may provide clues as to the causes of the incident.
