First cruise ship of the year arrives and nine more scheduled this month

The 'Mein Schiff 6' cruise ship arrived in the port of Ibiza mid-morning yesterday and set course for Mallorca at 20:00.

The cruise season has kicked off with the arrival of the first of the year, the ‘Mein Schiff 6’. With maximum capacity for 2,534 passengers, the ship arrived yesterday at Botafoc after 11:30am and departed at 8pm for Mallorca.

According to data offered by the Balearic Port Authority, another nine tourist cruise ships will call at the port of Ibiza during the remainder of the month.

The cruise ship that arrived yesterday on the island belongs to the Tui Cruises shipping company and was inaugurated in the port of Hamburg in June 2017. Since then it has sailed through northern European waters, the Canary Islands, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. It boasts dimensions of nearly 300 meters in length, 36 maximum width and 98,811 registered tons. It is propelled by four engines that give it a maximum speed of 21.7 knots.

It was built at the Meyer shipyard in Turku, Finland. This ship has eleven restaurants and 16 bars on board and has a crew of 1,000.

More cruise ship arrivals

The next tourist ship to dock in Ibiza will be the ‘MSC Seaside’, with a total capacity for 5,553 people, and will do so on Wednesday at 11:30am. On Thursday the ‘Mein Schiff Herz’ is scheduled to arrive at 8am. The 264-meter vessel has a capacity for 1,912 passengers.

More cruise ships will arrive next week: on the 18th the ‘Star Flyer’, with capacity for 170 passengers, offers a navigation very similar to a private yacht; and on the 20th again the ‘MSC Seaside.

On the 25th  the ‘Royal Clipper’ with capacity for 227 passengers will arrive; on the 26th the ‘Queen Elizabeth’ (2,068 passengers); on the 27th two will coincide, the ‘MSC Seaside’ and the ‘Club Med 2’ (386 passengers). The ‘Sea Cloud’ will close the month on the 30th, which has capacity for 138 passengers.
