The airlines have scheduled a total of 1.6 million seats on 11,500 flights to Ibiza airport from this weekend until the last weekend of April, when the winter season comes to an end and the summer season officially comes into force in the air travel sector.
The number of seats on offer represents an increase of 24.5% over the same period in 2019, the last year before the pandemic shattered the island, Pitiusa, Balearic, national, European and world economy. It also represents a 25.6% increase with respect to the number of flights. To compile this statistic, AENA takes into account the reservations of landings and take-offs made by the airlines, and the number of seats is obtained by adding up the capacity of all these planes.
The forecast announced yesterday by the airport manager implies a significant recovery in activity and shows that, if there are no new developments with respect to covid, the economy is getting closer and closer to the ‘old normal’.
It should also be borne in mind that the reservations made by the airlines change every day, so these data, although positive, only reflect the current reality and may undergo significant changes .
In any case, with these forecasts in hand, it can be concluded that Ibiza airport will recover its normal pulse this winter after a summer that, pending the October data, has not been as bad as initially predicted.
In the winter season that begins this weekend, the airport of es Codolar carry most of the weight as traffic to domestic destinations accounts for most of these figures: 1.5 million seats offered (taking into account that this includes both arrivals and departures). This figure implies an increase of 25% over the same period two years ago. And this volume of passenger traffic would move with the 10,500 flights planned for the same dates (26% more than in 2019).
