Ibiza will experience a heatwave this week with temperatures that could reach 39ºaccording to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The situation will be similar in the rest of the Balearic Islands. In fact, last night the minimum temperatures recorded were already tropical night throughout the archipelago, torrid in Palma.
The delegation in the islands of the Aemet in the Pitiusas informs that it has been close to the torrid night in Vila, the area of the airport and Formentera with 24 degreeswhile in Sant Antoni it has not dropped below 23.
The territorial delegate of the Aemet, María José Guerrero, has assured that the islands will experience “the hottest week of the year and of the summer” – while waiting for the forecasts to be confirmed – because of the entry of a mass of warm air from Africa. In addition, the atmospheric stability and the intense radiation will cause that the “maximum and minimum temperatures will rise”, he has detailed.
By days, this Tuesday maximum temperatures are expected between 29 and 35º with minimum temperatures between 20 and 24º that will cause tropical nights, while there will be the possibility of some fog bank in Mallorca with light wind and northeast orientation of coastal breeze.
On Thursday, the increase in temperatures will continue due to the fact that maximum temperatures between 30 and 38º are expected, as well as tropical and torrid nights, since the minimum temperatures will be between 22 and 25º.
Finally, Friday is expected to be the zenith of the wave, as highs could reach between 31 and 39 degrees, accompanied by minimums that will repeat the torrid and tropical nights. A day in which the dust in suspension will persist, in addition to variable light wind with coastal breeze.
The sweltering heat will be the protagonist the next days in all Spain, according to the meteorologists, with maximums of between 42 and 44 degrees in large parts of the countrywhich will result in the first episode of “very high temperatures” of this summer.
