The delegation of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) in the Balearic Islands foresees higher than normal temperatures for this last week of October and the first two weeks of November and no significant rainfall. The unusually warm temperaturesย for this time of year are also causing sea temperatures of between two and three degrees above normal and, alerts the delegate of the Balearic AEMET, Marรญa Josรฉ Guerrero, can cause common disturbances in autumn such as cold fronts or DANAS (High Level Isolated Depression), better known as cold snaps, to increase in intensity.
Thus, the AEMET foresees in these next three weeks, the last week of October and the first two weeks of November, warm temperatures and the absence of precipitation, although without ruling out some rain in the second week of next month.
This week, the agency predicts that on Ibiza the thermometers will reach a maximum of 27 degrees and minimum of between 17 and 18, very unusual for this time of the year.
“The forecasts speak of no rain until the end of the month and the possibility of some rainfall in early November, although with little reliability. A possibility that will be greater from the second week of this month,” said the delegate.
The period immediately preceding, between September 15 and October 15, has been described as “very wet” by the AEMET but only in the Llevant of the island, where in municipalities such as Colรฒnia de Sant Pere, Artร , Capdepera, Son Servera and Manacor abundant rainfall has been recorded. It has not been so, Guerrero has contrasted, in the Serra, interior and south of Mallorca, areas in which this period has been described as “very dry”.
Warm temperatures: between three and six degrees more
With greater detail, Guerrero has announced that in this last week of the month temperatures will range between three and six degrees above average at this time (21 degrees maximum and 12 minimum). The forecast for the first two weeks of the coming month is that average temperatures are between one and three degrees above when it is usual that temperatures don’t exceed 19 or 20 degrees maximum or 11 minimum.
This warm weather is also causing the sea to be warmer than normal at the end of October, between two and three degrees above. It is currently at 24 degrees Celsius when it would normally be between 21 and 22. This high sea temperature can cause, as already mentioned at the beginning of this information, that extreme weather effects such as fronts or cold snaps usual in autumn are become more severe.
