It is no longer only the long queues of international and UK tourists waiting for a taxi at Ibiza airport, which can be ‘normal’ if several flights arrive simultaneously. The problem has spread to the whole island, and it is an almost impossible task to get one both at the taxi ranks and by phoning the service switchboard, where they warn that the wait can be more than two hours.
Hotels on Ibiza recently confirmed to Diario de Ibiza that many customers end up missing their flights because they cannot get a taxi to take them to the airport, a situation for which they receive continuous complaints even though this problem is out of their control. For this reason, many tourist establishments have opted to hire the services of transfer companies.
UK tourists complain to the press
Complaints from UK tourists about the poor and insufficient cab service in Ibiza have reached the UK press.
The Mirror newspaper reports: “Tourists heading to Spain this summer may face more than one problem as Spanish airports struggle to keep up with the influx of passengers since international travel was reopened.
People arriving at the airports of Ibiza, Palma, Costa del Sol and Barcelona have reported having extreme difficulty finding a taxi to transport them to their accommodation.”
He also points out that in the case of Ibiza the transport problem is “twice as serious” and that it is impossible to meet the demand for taxis from tourists.
