Formentera, chosen best sustainable destination by National Geographic readers

Formentera is the best sustainable destination for the readers of National Geographic magazine as reported by the Consell de Formentera. The island has achieved this recognition in the third edition of the awards of the popular travel magazine.

“This prestigious recognition is a testament to the island’s commitment to sustainability, innovation and excellence in tourism offeringsand reflects the hard work done to offer unique experiences to our visitors,” explains the Consell de Formentera in a note, which reports that the award will mean that the island will appear in the magazine “throughout the year”. This, they point out, “certifies the quality and the continuous effort of Formentera in improving its tourism proposals, promoting a responsible and respectful tourism with the natural environment”.

“The selection process, carried out by experts from the magazine at the beginning of the year, included an open vote in which readers participated in the 16 categories of destinations, establishments and projects. In this phase, 80 finalists were submitted, of which 16 destinations emerged as winners and five special mentions were awarded“, details the institution on the process of awarding the prizes.

The Consell de Formentera thanks all those who voted and notes that the award “reaffirms” its “commitment to continue promoting sustainable tourism that preserves the beauty and authenticity of our island for future generations.”
