The first half of this year has seen a rebound in crime rates in the Pitiusas with respect to last year. In the first six months of 2021 3,575 crimes were committed on Ibiza, which rose to 4,887 in the same period of this year, representing an increase of 36.7%.

On the island of Formentera, the relative increase is similar: from 174 criminal offenses in the first half of the 2021 financial year, it has risen to 236 from January to June of this year, representing a growth of 35.6%.
The number of crimes against sexual freedom and indemnity has increased on Ibiza from 43 to 50 in the first half of 2022, which represents a growth of 16.3% over the same period of the previous year, at the end of which 114 criminal offenses of this nature were recorded, according to official data from the Ministry of the Interior.
In these first six months of 2022, the number of rapes on the island of Ibiza increased from four to five (25%), while the remaining registered sexual crimes went from 39 to 45 (15.4%). On Formentera, four crimes against sexual freedom and indemnity have been recorded in the first six months of the year, compared to three last year (33.3). Among them there is no rape, according to the same data from the Ministry of Interior.
More residential burglary crimes
Also residential burglary crimes have grown. This category of crime grew by 15.4%, going from 117 cases to 135 in the first half of 2022, while on Formentera it fell by 10%, going from 10 to 9.
This type of crime is important in island territories such as Ibiza due to the existence of many houses scattered in the countryside. Episodes of continuous house burglaries, even with the tenants inside, are repeated in areas such as Santa Gertrudis or Sant Llorenç, according to neighbors.
Returning to the analysis of the Interior data, it is worth noting that vehicle thefts grew above the average, with 147 thefts on Ibiza (65.2%) -on Formentera there were 17 (13.35%)- and drug trafficking, with 92 criminal offenses (55.9%) -on Formentera, 3 (-40%)-.

This crime breaks the statistics for its extraordinary increase and the frequency with which it occurs. On Ibiza, the number of thefts doubled in the first half of the year.
