Santa Eulària expands the taxi fleet and summer shifts

The Consistory will also put out to tender the ten seasonal taxi licenses which were left vacant from last year's call

Santa Eulària will be equipped with twelve new fixed taxi licenses this year and in addition, plans to increase the fleet by re-tendering another ten seasonal licenses this summer that were left vacant last year. This was approved yesterday by the plenary with the support of all municipal groups, which also showed a consensus on a proposal by the government team to request that the Balearic Govern provide administrative staff to the Basic Health Units of Santa Gertrudis, Sant Carles and Puig d’en Valls.

Lowest ratio of taxis per inhabitant in the Balearic Islands

The deputy mayor Antonia Picó recalled that the municipality has one of the lowest ratios of taxis per inhabitant in the Balearic Islands. In addition, the twelve new fixed licenses are justified by the increase in demand for for off-season service, both by the increase in national sporting events and by the increase in second residence tourism.

On the other hand, the Consistory will again put out to tender the ten seasonal cabs which were left vacant from last year’s call, when 54 of the 64 were awarded for the 2022-2023 biennium. As recalled yesterday in the plenary, the uncertainty still caused by covid turned off many of the applicants. Instead, there was a massive influx of tourists, and with strong forecasts for this summer, the interest from taxi drivers to manage these licenses has multiplied.
