Nobody should worry. The organizers of the Sant Rafel OctubreFest have beer and sandwiches to spare for all those who come this Saturday, from 8pm, to celebrate the return of the 14th year of one of the most popular festivals with loads of tradition on the island. A meeting that will feature local food products and local music with a lineup consisting of Niños Raros, New Young Polaks, Flordhiguera y Billy Flamingos.

“The most important thing is to recover the Sant Rafel Octubrefest, after two years of hiatus due to the pandemic. People are very lively and are eager to celebrate things, so we have prepared to receive a lot of people” warns Pau Gomila, member of Grup OctubreFest, a group of young people from the village who have been organizing the festival for 16 years, in collaboration with the Sant Antoni City Council and the Sant Rafel neighbors association.

In previous years, outside groups have played, but this year the poster has been reserved for locals: “There are many high quality groups on the island and we also want to give them an opportunity to play. This time there are two very young groups with a lot of potential, Niños Raros and The New Young Polaks, the popular Billy Flamingos and we have included the cumbia of Flordhiguera to make people dance,” explains Gomila.

As for the beer, in addition to the taps, there will be a menu with a dozen bottled beers to choose from, three of them being from the local brand Iboshim, in order to promote the local product. The glasses for the festival, as usual, are original and reusable. In addition, they will prepare more than 450 sandwiches and this year as a novelty they will incorporate an area with coals for all those who want to toast sobrasada.

The offer is completed with the Sant Rafel OctubereFest T-shirts, which were usually made only for the organizers, but this year they have made some more for those who want to take a souvenir home.

OctubreFest currency

The festival has its own currency, the rafaler, to avoid the always uncomfortable changes at the bar, which will be exchanged for euros in a booth of the organization. A currency that does not fluctuate, one rafaler=one euro.

The Grup OctubreFest is an open meeting of young people from the town that has been changing over the years but the objectives remain the same. In addition to this festival they organize other activities for the festivities of Sant Rafel, such as the proclamation, the awarding of the Forca de Fang prize and the dinner at the beginning of the festivities, which this year has had more people than ever, as well as collaborating in several others.
