Sant Ciriac is celebrated in style with ‘berenada’ and fireworks

The traditional 'berenada' in Puig des Molins and the fireworks, the most outstanding events

The 8th of August, the day of Sant Ciriac, is another of the key dates of these Festes de la Terra. For this reason, the Town Hall has prepared a programme with a variety of events, including the traditional berenada popular, music and a fireworks display. But before that, several events will be held to commemorate the Catalan conquest of Ibiza in 1235, which is the reason for this public holiday.

At ten o’clock in the morning, the Ciutat d’Ibiza Band will offer a concert in the Cathedral square. It will be just before the mass, which will begin half an hour later, followed by a procession. At noon, the chapel of Sant Ciriac will host the prayers of the bishop, followed by procession. And a quarter of an hour later will begin the act of homage to Guillem de Montgrí, who led the conquest of Ibiza against the Muslims.

Then will come the performance of baile payés by the Federació de Colles de Ball Pagès d’Ibiza, followed by the speech of the president of the Consell, Vicent Marí, and the interpretation of ‘Roqueta sa meua roca’, sung by the Cor Amics de sa Música, in the Cloister of the Town Hall of Ibiza.

Already in the afternoon, from half past six, will come one of the events most appreciated by residents: the popular berenada in Puig des Molins. There will be archery, children’s workshops and, of course, snacks for everyone. Then the music of the Patronat de Música band and charanga (directed by Damián Boluda), and later Bluesmafia and the Saligardos will take the reins, already in the Reina Sofía de Vila park. And to say goodbye to the day? At midnight, the always spectacular fireworks display will be launched from the port.
