After two months closed following an “excellent” season, four nightclub venues (DC-10, Amnesia, Pacha and Lío) will open their doors tomorrow to celebrate the new year. With tickets practically sold out, the clubs expect some 10,000 people to welcome the first hours of 2023, as well as providing work for some 600 people.

José Luis Benítez manager of Ocio de Ibiza, estimates that on the first night of the new year, between 9,000 and 10,000 people will hit the dance floors. To serve so many people, these four venues have recruited approximately 600 employees “The staff consists of about 500 direct workers and about 100 indirect workers, 600 in total,” he says. Benítez assures that, despite the dates, “there has been no problem” in recruiting so many people: “Many stay on the island all year round, in addition to the fact that extra people are taken on for this occasion”. And there is another reason that facilitates recruitment: “That day is paid quite well, usually double the salary of a normal day. Most of them haven’t put up any objections, and in general the venues have managed to fill all their positions”.

Nightclubs work well in advance

Moreover, they have been working on this party for months: “The big nightclubs have to work well in advance. At the end of the season we knew more or less which ones would open and which ones would not. We plan well in advance. We are not companies that suddenly raise the blinds: you have to plan DJs, staff, purchases… And when you close in October, you half dismantle the nightclub. Then you have to get it up and running again”. In fact, he stresses, “those who plan to open in April 2023 are already working on it. Some are even already selling tickets”.

Is it profitable to open for just one day? “Normally, no. If it goes well, you get your investment back. But it’s something you bring to the people of Ibiza, who are the main clientele that night. They are people who do not usually get to enjoy the nightclubs during summer and now they have that opportunity. It has been many years since so many nightclubs have opened for these parties. The entry prices  will be “more or less the same” as in season: “They won’t be increased. And many customers are from the island who sign up for guest lists. Everyone knows everyone here. That’s the reason for the low profitability of the night”

Pacha and Lío will also open. Pacha will employ “about 150 people” which is “practically the same team as on a summer night”, since, according to the company, on New Year’s Eve “the cleaning staff, the production staff, the assembly staff, the waiters, the lighting and sound technicians…” are also involved.  At Lío, from the same group, there will be 140 people on staff.

Both the dinner at Lío and the tickets for Pacha “sold out a week ago. There are no pre-sale tickets left, but some will be left at the door”
