The opposition demands the mayor of Sant Antoni take responsibility for the invoicing “scandal”

The opposition of Sant Antoni demands that Marcos Serra "assume political responsibilities" for the "hand-picked contracts" made by the department directed by Miguel Tur, and describes his actions within the department as "intolerable".

The PSOE-Reinicia councilman Antonio Lorenzo believes it is “a scandal” that in a single year the comptroller of Sant Antoni put in objections to 90 invoices processed by the Department of Festivals and Tourism for a total amount of 728,326 euros and that more than half of that amount (376,588 euros) corresponds to services awarded to a single company (Sonitec), as it is “a major splitting of contracts”.

In his opinion, the fact that Intervention prepared six reports between December 2021 and December 2022 on the failure to audit 90 invoices reveals “the existence of a modus operandi exercised during this mandate from the Sant Antoni City Council”, which is directed by Miguel Tur. “In all municipalities,” says Lorenzo, “there may be repairs, but this is different. That way of working has been normalized. It is a way of working that Miguel Tur has exercised since 2019 to benefit a specific company”, in reference to Sonitec Ibiza Eventos S.L., whose sole administrator is Vicente Escandell and who, from June 2019 until last summer, has received payments totalling 859,000 euros, an amount that will surely exceed one million euros once the invoices for the past Christmas holidays are processed.

“Someone has to take responsibility because this is a scandal, and give explanations to the public, because we are talking about public money.”

Lorenzo is confident that the mayor, Marcos Serra will provide explanations in the extraordinary plenary session to be held tomorrow, requested by the Socialists to deal exclusively with this matters: “We hope that he will be forthright and admit that things have not been done properly,” Serra said. Someone has to take responsibility because this is a scandal, and give explanations to the public, because we are talking about public money. And I won’t get into whether the prices are market prices, something that can not be checked because no alternative budgets were requested”. In the case of expenses of less than 15,000 euros, the Sant Antoni City Council itself has acknowledged that it did not request alternative budgets. In the case of those expenses that exceeded minor contracts, no service was tendered.
