Fight between two cab drivers in Platja d’en Bossa due to disagreements over the insular order of loading and unloading

Arguing between taxi drivers over this issue is commonplace, especially during the season

Two taxi drivers got into a fight last night in front of the door of a discotheque in Platja d’en Bossa after disagreeing about the island’s loading and unloading order for the taxi sector.

The two drivers began arguing about priority for picking up passengers, something that, according to reports Antoni Rierapresident of the Taxi Insular Federation of the Illa d’Eivissa (Fitie), is something “usual”especially in the middle of the tourist season, when there are queues at the stops.

“Normally it doesn’t come to blows, but since the order was passed, discussions tend to break out because some people use the picaresque and interpret it as they see fit, and others take the law into their own hands,” says Riera.

The president of Fitie explains that this disagreement is not an “isolated” fact, and regrets it because it gives “a very bad image of the sector”. To the “ambiguity” of the order is added, as Riera adds, that the season is coming to an end and has been worse than the previous ones, so there is more competition among drivers.

The insular order of loading and unloading of the cab sector was agreed in May 2022 between the Consell and the municipalities of Ibiza and from the beginning has provoked division of opinion in the sector.

With this approval, the preference of cab drivers of a municipality was eliminated in the stops in case there were people waiting with the intention of decongesting stops with high demand, such as the one at the airport or the one on Santa Eulària de Vila avenue.
