Contrast Ibiza starts in New York

The festival to be held next Saturday in Sant Antoni is presented with a party at The Slipper Room in Manhattan

Contrast Ibiza’s relationship with New York is due to the artists programmed in the different editions held to date: stars like Marky Ramone, Sophie Auster and Clem Burke, who visited Contrast Ibiza last year, are intrinsically linked to New York. And this year’s line-up is also a symbiosis between Ibiza and the city that never sleeps. Contrast Ibiza takes place on Saturday the 30th of September at Sa Punta des Molí in Sant Antoni, starting at 7 pm with free admission, with the only concert in Europe by Slim Jim Phantom of the Stray Cats, along with Jennie Vee, and the never-before-seen-in-Spain exhibition by Spencer Ostrander. Both artists come from New York. This year’s finale will have a British accent: Blur drummer Dave Rowntree on the decks.

The Contrast Ibiza launch party was attended by numerous personalities and well-known faces from music, visual arts and journalism, such as Marky Ramone, the founder of the legendary NY punk store Trash & Vaudeville Ray Goodman, photographer Spencer Ostrander, jewelry designer Chus Burés, documentary and music video director Paul Rachman, or the National Literature Award winner Kirmen Uribe.

“Come to rock”

Slim Jim Phantom explains that he is looking forward to “coming to rock the town”, in reference to one of the greatest Stray Cats hits ‘Rock this town’. This song will not be missing in a concert that will review all the hits of the Stray Cats and other classics by Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran or Carl Perkins.

Contrast Ibiza Empieza En Ny

Slim Jim Phantom’s career is linked to the band he founded in 1979 with Brian Setzer and Lee Rocker, but he has also had the opportunity to play with other music greats such as Jerry Lee Lewis and George Harrison, among others. His partner, Jennie Vee, is the current bassist of Eagles of Death Metal and in the past was part of the band Hole, led by Courtney Love.

Blur’s drummer, Dave Rowntree, visits Ibiza taking advantage of a few weeks break in the reunion tour of the legendary English group that has sold 40 million records throughout his career. Rowntree will close the Contrast with a dj set in which he will play the songs that have marked his life in pop and rock.

But music is not the only cultural proposal offered by the Contrast festival. The Walter Benjamin hall of Sa Punta des Molí will host on the same day, September 30, the opening of an exhibition unpublished in Spain. It is ‘Times Square in the Rain’, by Spencer Ostrander.

Ostrander Exhibition

The New York artist exhibits for the first time in our country. The snapshots of the exhibition show us the explosion of color that occurs in the streets of New York during a rainy day, while citizens and tourists are protected from the water with umbrellas and raincoats that acquire a special glow through the lens of Ostrander. The accompanying texts have been written by Princess of Asturias Award winner Siri Hustvedt.

The Contrast festival is sponsored by Turismo de Ibiza, the Conselleria de Cultura del Consell and the Sant Antoni Town Hall, in addition to the collaboration of Level, the low cost and long distance airline of IAG, Vueling, NYX Hotel Ibiza of the hotel chain Leonardo-Hotels and the construction company Auztarri.
