Buses on Ibiza: Alsa denies the L9 carries more passengers than permitted

The bus company Alsa assures that the service is correct and that the cancellation of the L2 has been reinforced with other lines, while the Consell insists that five other lines cover this route all summer long.

The company Voramar el Gaucho-Alsa assures, in response to complaints about the excess of passengers on the buses of line 9 (between Sant Antoni and the airport), published yesterday by this newspaper, that the vehicles do not usually exceed their passenger capacity and that it is the suitcases that are a problem because they take up a lot of space.

José María Cardona, manager of the Alsa transport company, explains that since August 1st “reinforcements have been put in place for this route and now the bus runs every 40 minutes instead of every hour at certain times”, who adds that line 2 was removed, but number 6, which covers the route through Cala de Bou, was put in.

Alsa defends line changes

“Line 9 has 100 seats and it is also an urban transport, so it can carry standing passengers”, says the manager of Alsa, who maintains that if someone has been left “stranded” at the stop, as a user complained to this newspaper, it has been at specific times. As for the elimination of line 2, a reason for complaints also from residents of Sant Antoni, Cardona recalls that it has been replaced by line 6, which passes through Cala de Bou.

For its part, the Department of Transport of the Consell, responsible for the bus service on the island, insists that “ the schedules of the L9 were extended last Monday to respond to the increased demand by users,” explained a spokeswoman.

She also defended the elimination of line 2 during the summer months: “In high season, five other bus lines (L1, L4, L5, L6 and L7) cover similar routes that respond to the demand of L2, so it is not correct to say that the bus service in the area has got worse,” lamented the spokeswoman who added that, with the implementation of these lines, “the timetables and the number of routes operating in the same area have been extended.”
