Álvaro Rodríguez, the Ibizan behind soundtracks for Anglo-Saxon cinema

Álvaro Rodríguez Cabezas, a composer from Ibiza, will premiere his piece Rite of Salt & Fire on 15 December at the Teatro Pereyra as part of the Eivissa Clàssica festival. Rodríguez, who has built a career primarily in the audiovisual sector creating soundtracks (BSOs), views this event as particularly meaningful as it marks his debut on his home island. Trained in orchestral and choral composition in Barcelona, he shifted focus from performance to composition, citing greater career prospects in the film industry. Despite challenges breaking into the field, he has composed over 20 soundtracks, mostly for Anglo-Saxon clients, while maintaining versatility across genres. His latest work draws on Ibiza’s Phoenician-Punic heritage, reimagined through modern instruments. Balancing freelance composition with other musical work, Rodríguez contemplates relocating to the UK for a more sustainable lifestyle, though he remains committed to pursuing his creative ambitions.
