Aemet warns of a drastic change of weather in Ibiza and Formentera

Although these are six-day forecasts, it seems that the situation is quite predictable

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) warns of a “drastic change” in the weather next week. It forecasts the arrival from Tuesday or Wednesday of a strong polar front, which will cause precipitation and a marked drop in temperatures.

Despite these six-day forecasts, it seems that the situation is quite predictable, says Aemet.

The Pitiusas say goodbye to the summer of San Martin, which has left maximum temperatures of up to 26 degrees this weekend and has allowed to enjoy the beaches again these days.

This change in weather will mean going from the 13 and 22 degrees minimum and maximum temperatures forecast for this Thursday to the 10 and 18 degrees forecast for Tuesday next week, as well as the decrease of the snow elevation to 1,300 meters. The probability of rain for Tuesday is 65%, according to Aemet forecasts.

This Thursday will continue an anticyclone over the Peninsula and squalls traveling north, while on the islands there will be intervals of clouds and minimum temperatures of up to 12 degrees and highs of between 20 and 25 degrees. The wind will be light, increasing to moderate, from the southwest.

Summer of Sant Martín

This weekend has stood out in the islands for the high temperatures experienced despite the drop in the mercury in previous weeks. The weather seemed to have already forced us to make the change of closet and to take out the blankets at home, but the summer of St. Martin has brought warm temperatures to the Pitiusas.

It is known as veranillo de San Martin to a period of short duration, only a few days, which occurs in mid-November, near the feast of St. Martin, which is celebrated on November 11.

Precisely, coinciding with this day, last Saturday there were recorded 26 degrees in the city of Ibiza, 24 degrees in Sant Joan and 23 degrees in the airport of es Codolar, Formentera and Sant Antoni, according to data published by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The minimum temperatures experienced on Saturday night to Sunday night were also high for the time of year, with 20 degrees in Sant Antoni, Ibiza and the Ibizan aerodrome; 18 degrees in Sant Joan; and 19 degrees in Formentera.

Sunday also saw unusually high temperatures, with 25 degrees in Sant Joan, the airport and Ibiza town; 24 degrees in Formentera; and 22 degrees in Sant Antoni.

“Unusual” warm episode

This St. Martin’s summer will be an “unusual” warm episode for the time of year and not just an autumnal summer, as expected by the spokesman for the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), Ruben del Campo, because several areas of the Peninsula, mainly the north and east, will have maximum and minimum temperatures between 5 and 10 degrees above normal, which will even be around or above 30 degrees in the Mediterranean.

Likewise, del Campo has pointed out that this could be “the warmest summer of San Martin of the historical series”, since foreseeably the days between November 11 and 15 could register the warmest days for these dates in the set of peninsular Spain when the records began in 1950.

According to the spokesman, the episode began this Sunday when temperatures above 3 degrees were reached in points of Malaga and night values around 20 degrees in areas of the Mediterranean, ie, nights close to tropical.

Thus, the next few days will be dominated by stable and anticyclonic weather, but with rains that will be limited to points in the far north of the peninsula, mainly in Galicia, where they will be abundant. Meanwhile, the spokesman has highlighted the fog in the early morning and tomorrow that will form in the interior of the peninsula.
