Formentera prepares tourism promotion plan for strong 2022 season

Employers expect to open earlier for tourism this year than in 2021, between Easter and the beginning of May.

The vice president of the Consell de Formentera and Councillor for Tourism Promotion and Planning, Alejandra Ferrer, and the head of Promotion, Carlos Bernús, yesterday participated in the Comisión de Ordenación y Promoción Turística (COPT) (Commission for Tourism Promotion and Planning), which also includes representatives of the tourism sector (Hotel Association of Formentera, Chamber of Commerce, Pimef, CAEB and travel agencies), as well as political parties. At the meeting the draft of the Tourism Promotion Plan for 2022 was delivered and, according to the Consell, the basic lines and proposals were agreed upon.

During the next two weeks the proposals of the sector will be collected and they will meet again to approve the final document.

In this meeting the situation derived from covid and how it may affect the tourist season was also discussed.

They analyzed the main problems of the past season and agreed to “work on the proposal of measures to organize and propose to the different administrations to guarantee health safety and the proper functioning of the establishments and services of the island”. These reflections, adds the Consell, “will be part of the document of the tourism promotion plan 2022”.

The head of Tourism thanked the representatives of the commission for their collaboration to “all together make forecasts and proposals for next summer, which will be flexible depending on the evolution of the pandemic, but that with the experience of last year and the previous year, once the possible problems are identified, we can avoid them”.

The representatives of the tourism sector expressed their “good feelings” about the next season, which they expect to start earlier than that of 2021, between Easter and the beginning of May.

They also noted that “early bookings are recovering and that the Italian market has increased bookings and, in general, there is a lot of interest in Formentera as a destination”.

Tourism Barometer

Ferrer also explained the results of the Tourism Barometer and asked the sector to work together to improve visitor satisfaction and service quality. He stated that his department is working “on a manual of good practices aimed at the tourism sector that will be accompanied by talks and training to teach new staff who come to work to tell the history, heritage and gastronomy of Formentera, as well as the events and the offer we have.”
