With the plenary hall of the Consell de Formentera full of public, among which were political representatives and citizens’ associations, the first barometer of residents and businesses was presented yesterday. The work is the result of the Observatory of data that depends on the insular conselleria of Tourism, with the intention of taking the pulse of citizen opinion on economic, social and public services issues.

There is an overwhelming majority opinion among citizens when assessing the value for money with respect to consumer products. Here 85.99% fail this relationship. Among them 29.55% consider that “everything is very expensive”; 16.18 % criticize the standard of living and 12.7 % say that housing is very expensive, 10.96 % say that the shopping basket is very expensive.

One of the data is that 72 % of the surveyed residents consider that Formentera does not have the necessary facilities and services. 18.8% of the population is not satisfied with the health system; public transport is negatively valued by 10.44%; leisure and entertainment is considered insufficient by 10.17 %, without forgetting the problem of access to housing pointed out by 8.43% of those surveyed.

Many Formentera residents in favor of all year round tourism

When residents were asked if they wanted tourism all year round, 70.22% were in favor. The reasons are to have continuous work, not only in high season. Those who say no, things are fine as they are, are based on personal criteria such as enjoying the tranquility and that they are not disturbed and because 9.81% beleive that the island should recover from overcrowding.

Currently there are two surveys, one for residents and the other to local businesses. In the case of the first group, 671 surveys were carried out. Of the people who participated, 97.76% reside on the island; the rest, 2.24% work on Formentera and reside on Ibiza.
