The slogan ‘Proud of who I am, Trans Love’ led last Friday’s march for LGTBIQ rights, which, as is now tradition, brought the events of Ibiza Pride 2021 to a close, which have been held over the last two weeks in Ibiza. The march, full of music, good vibes and rainbow flags, went from the roundabout of the podencos to the monument to the Corsairs in the port of Vila. There, the organizer of the event, Antonio Balibrea, and representatives of the institutions addressed the public before the reading of the manifesto, or manifestos, because it was two members of trans collectives who read the speeches, in one case focusing on their personal experiences.
The first to take the stage was Carlos Bellotera, from the association La Llave del Armario, who called for “transversal feminisms” and demanded that the government protect trans people through an LGTBIQ law that is “trans, feminist and inclusive, state-wide and widely recognised”. “Rights are achieved step by step and we must not let them step on our toes,” stated Bellotera.
“The Trans law is not the end, it is one more step, the path towards a more just, egalitarian and free society, which welcomes diversity as an opportunity for common growth, placing Spain as a country of reference in the respect for human rights”, concluded Bellotera.
