Countdown to the first triathlon of the season on Ibiza

The competition awards three places for the Spanish Triathlon Championship.

The first triathlon of the season on Ibiza is finalizing the details for the big race that will take place next Sunday from 8am at Ses Salines beach. The race is part of the Balearic Championship and will have two categories, sprint distance and Olympic distance.

A triathlon in an idyllic setting

It will be the second of the Balearic Championship season, but the first to take place in the Pitiusa Major. The chosen location is hard to beat: ses Salines. An idyllic beach where athletes and fans will be able to enjoy the competition on what is expected to be a spring day on the island: “It is an attractive venue. We will be in one of the most beautiful places on the island to hold a sporting event and for people to come and watch the competition. In addition, it coincides with the Sant Jordi festivities, so we expect a large influx of people,” said Pablo Mendieta, president of G. D. Presuntos Triatletas.

Both categories, the sprint and the Olympic, will have the same route, but cover different distances. The start will be from the beach of Ses Salines. The sprint category will consist of 750 meters of open sea swimming, 20 kilometers of road cycling and 5 kilometers of running. The Olympic type will be with distances of 1,500 meters on swimming, 40 kilometers of road cycling and 10 kilometers of running. The Presuntos Triatletas Sports Group is the main organizer of the event: “This will be the fourth edition of the triathlon we have organized. In each one of them we are including improvements. It must not be forgotten that we are an amateur triathlon club and that those of us who organize it do it as a hobby. Those of us who participate in the organization of this event do it in our free time, we do what we can. We learn year after year, thinking of both the athlete and the spectator. This year, for example, we have changed the location of the finish line. Now it will be located in a place with much better visibility for the fans,” said Pablo, director of the sports group.
