The Santa Eulària-Ibiza Marathon 2022 is finalizing the details and preparations for the celebration of a new event on the island, on April 9th, which aims to become a more important sporting festival than ever and that will break the record for participation this year, with the number of athletes that “doubling” the contestants registered in the 2019 edition, the largest so far. This, at least, has been assured by Talentum Group, the company organizing the event, which has also told Diario de Ibiza that the number of participants that will be counted this year in its different modalities (Marathon, 20K, 21K+21K Relay and 12K) will exceed “4,000 ‘finishers'”.
“This year is going to be incredible. More than 4,000 people are going to cross the finish line. That’s going to be something tremendous,” says Javier Matoses, from Talentum Group, while clarifying: “Those who experience the race from the inside are going to really enjoy it. In 2019, we had 2,400 runners which was the highest participation record. So, this year, we practically doubled it. If we were already the most important sporting event on Ibiza in terms of volume of runners, this year’s is going to be something huge and completely historic for the island.”
In this sense, the Talentum Group’s Communication Director highlights the great satisfaction in the organisation of the event, given the enormous impact and acceptance that this year’s 2022 edition has had so far.
“We are very happy, to be honest. With the new 20K launching this year, we have even had to increase the quota by a hundred additional bibs due to the huge demand we had for participants on the waiting list”, says Javier Matoses, who also adds: “It is clear that, after the pandemic, people are really looking forward to it”.
Proof of the reception of the Santa Eulària-Ibiza Marathon on the island can also be found in the increase in the number of children who have registered to participate on the morning of Saturday, April 9th in the already popular Kids Marathon, a promotional event for grassroots sports, which this year will have around 500 young athletes.
“The idea is to introduce the island’s children to sporting values and physical activity so that they can start running regularly,” says the Talentum Group’s Communication Director.
The Olympian Dani Mateo to attend the marathon
More good news for April 9th is the presence of the Olympic athlete Dani Mateo, record holder in the 21k+21k Relay together with the local athlete William Aveiro in the 2021 edition, who returns to join the Santa Eulària-Ibiza Marathon as an ambassador of the event.
Race for the children of Apneef
Also on the morning of Saturday, April 9th, the Santa Eulària-Ibiza Marathon organisers will be holding a race for the children of the Association of People with Special Needs of Ibiza and Formentera (Apneef), an organisation to which the event is donating part of the proceeds from registration fees. “It’s going to be an emotional and wonderful event. We know that the Apneef kids have been preparing for it all year,” says Javier Matoses of Talentum Group.
