Olympic athletics silver medalist Orlando Ortega signs up for Ibiza Meet

"It will be a good test in order to continue working towards the most important competitions of the year", says the Spanish hurdler, who completes the line-up of the athletics event to be held on Saturday at Can Misses-3.

The Spanish athlete Orlando Ortega, who will run next weekend at the Ibiza Toni Bonet Athletics Meet, said on Tuesday that he has “learned from the mistakes of 2021”, a year in which he suffered an untimely injury before the Tokyo Games, and now begins his summer season of 2022 with the Athletics Meet on the tracks of Can Misses-3, “a good test in order to continue working towards the most important competitions of the year”.

The Olympic runner-up in Rio ’16 will complete the star line-up of the Ibizan competition, which was announced yesterday at the athletics facilities by the Councilor for Sports, Salvador Losa; the councilor of Sports for Vila, Elena Lopez, and the president of CA Pitius, Toni Roig.

“It is said that you learn from your mistakes and I learned a lot from the 2021 season, but all that is behind me and I only worry about the present, enjoying athletics like I did years ago,” said Ortega in statements provided by the organization of the Ibiza Meet.

The Olympic runner-up in the 110m hurdles will be at the Ibiza event, where he does not expect “a great performance”, but “enjoy the emotions” after “a lot of training”.

After a 2021 that ended with an untimely injury a few days before the Tokyo Olympic Games, Ortega starts his summer season 2022 with a race that will serve “as a good test to continue working towards the most important competitions of the year”.

“The main objective we have for this summer season is to take good care of ourselves mentally and physically”, explained the athlete, who did not hesitate to confirm that he has his sights set on the World Championships in Eugene, the European Championships in Munich and the Diamond League, his “favorite competition”.
