The Ibizan rider Elías Escandell will have to face a long break in his sporting career as a result of a serious knee injury caused a couple of months ago by a fall while training. Although the young member of the national junior motocross team has been able to make several competitions since then, the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament has caused his knee to dislocate easily when he suffers a mishap in a race, so he has decided to stop the activity and undergo surgery for the injury.
“This weekend I had a fall in the first race and when I went to put weight on it my knee was dislocated and I had to stop. It’s the second time it’s happened to me and I’ve decided to stop and have surgery to be able to be at my best and injury free next season. Next year will be the last year in 125 and we want to go for everything”, explained the 16 year old rider after not being able to finish the sixth round of the MX125 European Championship held in the German circuit of Teutschenthal this weekend.
Escandell was immersed in the European and World circuits of his division, where he was achieving impressive results in his second year in the category such as the fifth place obtained in the inaugural event in Great Britain. At national level he added a silver medal in the last event held in Bellpuig, already with a fractured knee ligament.
Peak of career so far despite injury
The rider of the Motoclub de Formentera i Ibiza, based in Toledo, was in the peak of his career so far, leading the Spanish results in most international events, but the injury was getting worse and it was time to stop, as he said yesterday while speaking with Diario de Ibiza.
