Five Ibizans plus an Italian athlete living on the island, together with a companion from Cadiz, successfully reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa in an exciting expedition full of adventure and unforgettable experiences with the challenge '7 summits, 7 continents'.

From Ibiza, to the highest peak in Africa. An exciting adventure and ambitious challenge that a group of five Ibizan athletes have managed to successfully complete just a few days ago.

A daring team of seven mountaineers and climbers including Gabriel Tur Cardona, Agustín Soler Pérez, David Rodríguez Sibaja, Natalia Marí Wells, Giulio Magnasco Tabacchi and Félix Sánchez, from the Club Eivissenc de Muntanya, together with Guillermo Cantalejo Bonilla from Cadiz, has managed to fulfill the grand dream they had been pursuing for some time, to climb and conquer the highest peak of the African continent, Mount Kilimanjaro with an altitude of 5,895m.

“We arrived in Ibiza on Wednesday and we are still recovering from the effort, but we are very happy and very satisfied with this experience and with the historic sporting milestone we have managed to achieve”, Felix Sanchez, president and coach of the Club Eivissenc de Muntanya explains exclusively to Diario de Ibiza while detailing: “We are very happy, especially because we all managed to reach the top, the whole team, which was the main idea. And look, you can’t always do it, but we all made it. So, in the end, everything turned out great.

Regarding the process of conception and development of the idea to the beginning of his adventure on African soil, Felix Sanchez explains that this project began back in 2019 and became a reality on February 5th.

“Following the project ‘7 summits, 7 continents’, with which in 2019 we climbed the highest summit in Europe, the Elbrus, 5,642 meters, in the Caucasus Mountains in Russia, we decided that the next thing was to climb the second summit of the project, the highest peak in Africa, the summit of Kilimanjaro, 5,895 meters, but then the pandemic arrived and we had to delay everything until we finally decided to do it in 2023,” says the president of the Club Eivissenc de Muntanya, before continuing: “But first, to acclimatize and test the sensations at altitude, we climbed Mount Meru, 4,566 meters, the fifth highest mountain in Africa, to continue then with the main challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro on the Machame route, lasting seven days.
