Full vaccination or negative PCR for group sports from 15 September in Balearic Islands

The government is working on a legal framework that will allow training and tournaments for children as young as 12 to take place safely

The Govern has reiterated today its willingness to require the covid certificate of vaccination or in its absence a negative diagnostic test for those over 12 years old who participate in training and sports competitions, as well as users of gyms and public sports centres. And the date has been set. It will be from September 15.

However, the Councilor of Social Affairs and Sports, Fina Santiago, clarified in statements to IB3 Television that the intention of the Autonomous Executive was already expressed at the beginning of August and that at the moment is pending the arguments presented by the Supreme Court and by the different superior courts of justice of the communities to finally decide if this measure can be applied and in what specific conditions, giving the option of presenting a negative diagnostic test to those people who for whatever reason have not been vaccinated yet, since vaccination is not obligatory.

To transfer this information to interested parties, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Sports has met with the various sports federations of the Balearic Islands. The Govern, according to the spokespersons of these federations, is in favor of compulsory vaccination, but does not have the authority to do so without the express authorization of the Government, as it recognized last Monday after the meeting of the Consell de Govern.
