Elena López: “CD Ibiza accepted and is obligated to pay to play in Can Misses-3”

The club president, Antonio Palma, will no longer have priority in the use of the new football stadium to be built in Can Cantó

The relationship between Club Deportivo Ibiza and the City Council is at a point of no return. The legal action taken by Antonio Palma’s club, together with Club Atletisme Pitiús, against the agreement for the use of the UD Ibiza in the facilities of Can Misses and Can Misses-3 (the athletics track), the continuous attacks in the media and the escalation of demands regarding the use of municipal venues has tightened the rope with the Consistory in such a way that there is no longer any way to reach an understanding.

The latest episode, CD Ibiza’s refusal to pay proportionally for the maintenance of the natural grass of Can Misses-3, as agreed months ago with the City Council itself, has been answered by Vila’s Sports Councillor, Elena López: “The clubs do not pay to play in municipal facilities, but they agreed in writing to play on this field knowing that they had to collaborate in the maintenance of the turf. We are not going to assume that expense and we have never said that we were going to.

In declarations to Diario de Ibiza, the first deputy mayor insists that when CD Ibiza “accepted to play in Can Misses-3” they did it “knowing that they had to pay proportionally, and Antonio Palma said it was not a money problem”. “According to the UD, have not complied”, she points out.

The municipal responsible confirms that the CD Ibiza “had to sign an agreement” with the entity of Amadeo Salvo’s club to define the training schedules and the maintenance quotas of the turf, “but they have not done so”. “There are some minimums to meet. The UD has the use of pitch from 8am to 3pm and are obligated to let them play and train at least once a week. The CD has is obligated to pay for their use since they agreed to play there. If they want more training, why don’t they sit down and agree to it? They have to sign an agreement. It’s in both of their interests”, she stresses.
